I'm in the home stretch of a week-long babysitting stint for a 5-year-old boy and 20-month-old girl. It's had it's ups and downs (on the plus side: I still want to a.) try this babysitting thing professionally and b.) be a mom) but right now we're frankly all sick of each other (not to mention sick, literally). The boy's favorite word is boring. Anything he doesn't like is "boring," which, this week, has been me, often and repeatedly. I don't know where he picked it up, if some adult suggested/instituted it at his school as a nicer alternative to "stupid" or what, but everytime he says it, I think of this:

Adventures in babysitting*
